Coach Introduction

Jalen Moreland — Coach J

Jalen Moreland, known by players as Coach J, brings a strong basketball background and a natural connection to coaching. He was a varsity player at Perry High School and continued his playing career at Mesa Community College before his college journey was cut short by COVID.

Coach J will be coaching the 5th and 6th grade teams, where he will focus on helping players build strong fundamentals, confidence, basketball IQ, and love for the game.

Coaching is a natural next step for Coach J, as basketball mentorship has been part of his life from an early age. His father, Coach Milo, was Coach D's first coaching mentor and also coached both Jalen and Dylan in youth basketball, with Coach D assisting. Coach Milo is also a former Division I player at Tennessee, giving Coach J a strong foundation rooted in high-level basketball experience, leadership, and development.

Coach J is excited to bring his playing experience, energy, and basketball knowledge to the program while continuing the coaching legacy that helped shape him.

Our Mission

Develop players who know what they are doing and why.

The 5th-6th grade mission is to bridge the gap between basic fundamentals and real basketball decisions.

  • Decision-making.
Players learn when to attack, pass, cut, screen, space, rotate, and communicate.
  • Defensive pride.
We teach stance, containment, help-side positioning, rebounding, and staying locked in off the ball.
  • Game-ready skill work.
Reps are tied to situations players will actually see in practices, scrimmages, and tournaments.
  • Accountability.
Players are pushed to be coachable, prepared, on time, and responsible to their teammates.
